Question of the Week: Making Love

The Question of the Week is about that awesome topic of making love since Valentine's Day is coming up soon.

"Can making love be more than sweet and romantic sex?  Can it include dirty talk, more aggressive sex like spanking and such, etc., or do you feel that is sex and that is different than making love with your partner?"

Share your thoughts on the definition of making love versus aggressive sex below.

  1. Making love is all the above mentioned by you. Individual/shared techniques should be at "lovers" preference. Phil says in past I used to leave black marks on his body.....

    1. I agree that the best lovemaking is when you two have your own unspoken rhythm together.

  2. Making love is spontaneous. It's slow, it's sweet, it's tender. It's about feeling wonderful and wanting to make your partner feel wonderful. Yes, it can include dirty talk. But, I wouldn't consider any kind of BDSM to be making love - that's sex for the sake of sex.

    1. Sensual versus sexual is a great way to define making love, just as you described.

  4. I don't know if this is "an old fuddy duddy" perspective but to us making love is sweet and romantic. Yes it also includes dirty talk and little games. As Whkattk says...when we get into the BDSM then we are talking sex (great sex!!). We have a great sex life and a great love life. I suppose the distinction in our minds is that romance and making love go hand in hand. Being sweet, gentle, tender, teasing, and considerate to your lover....that's making love.

    2. I suppose Bryn and I are two hopeless romantics. We even have a Valentine's tradition. Every year our Valentine's dinner is the exact meal that I cooked for him the very first time I cooked him a meal.
Which was actually breakfast so... Every year our romantic dinner for Valentine's Day is a mushroom, cheese, and pepper omelette with sausage and sour dough toast, coffee, milk, and orange juice. Not everyone's idea of a romantic dinner but I feel like I am 25 again while I am cooking it.
I don't know how he does it but Bryn always manages to slip out of bed without waking me. I wake up with an orchid on my bedside table and a card that says "Until tonight." Silly but it sweeps me off my feet every time.
